Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun in our solar system, known for its reddish appearance, which is due to iron oxide, commonly referred to as rust, on its surface. It is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere composed mainly of carbon dioxide, and features a diverse landscape that includes the largest volcano in the solar system, Olympus Mons, and a system of valleys and canyons called Valles Marineris. Mars has two small moons, Phobos and Deimos, which are thought to be captured asteroids. The planet has been a focal point of exploration and study, particularly due to ongoing interest in its potential for past or present life, as well as future human colonization. Mars is often called the “Red Planet” and has been the subject of numerous missions by various space agencies, aimed at understanding its geology, climate, and potential for supporting life.
