Tag: Cygnus Mission

The Cygnus Mission refers to the series of missions conducted by Northrop Grumman under NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services program. Cygnus is an automated spacecraft designed to deliver cargo to the International Space Station (ISS). The mission includes launching Cygnus vehicles, which transport supplies such as food, equipment, and scientific experiments to support the astronauts aboard the ISS. Each mission involves a launch using an Antares rocket, sending the Cygnus spacecraft into low Earth orbit. Once in orbit, Cygnus autonomously navigates to the ISS, where it is captured by the station’s robotic arm and attached for unloading. After completing its resupply mission, Cygnus is often used to dispose of trash and unwanted items from the ISS by safely burning up upon re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere. The Cygnus missions are a vital operational component of maintaining and supporting ongoing research and activities aboard the ISS.
