I made this iPad stand for my buddy Anders. It’s made out of cardboard and duct tape and works perfectly. When I find the time, I’ll make one out of solid wood. The shape is very simple, so it shouldn’t be complicated. All I need is a block of wood, a tiny saw, sandpaper and patience! If you’re reading this and if you’re the lucky owner of an iPad, would you consider buying one of these stands? Leave a comment below.

Bokeh and light leak

jokkesvin-bokeh

I’ve always loved light leaks and bokeh effects in photos, so I decided to try and digitally recreate these effects. I opened up some images from Flickr for inspiration and then using Photoshop I tried to replicate the effects. I’ve used a combination of custom made radial gradients together with the Screen and Lighten blending modes and various leves of opacity of each bokeh/circle layer. The challenging part was to make the circles blend into the image itself. I discovered that by creating various color glows behind the circles, they would blend more into the objects behind them (of course depending on which colors you’re using). I’m pretty satisfied with the result.

FontLab – Kerning Classes

YouTube Preview Image

I’ve decided to make a series of FontLab video tutorials, and this is the first one in the series. I had some trouble exporting the video for YouTube in HD, but after watching a tutorial on how to apply the right settings, I finally got it right in the end. Enjoy.

Nice and clean Inbox

niceandcleaninbox

Inspired by my friend Anders, I also decided to clean up my Mail.app with the objective to have less clutter and thereby obtain a more efficient way of handling the many incoming mails. From this great blog post, I found my way onto an even greater site > 43folders.com where Merlin Mann humanistically explains the concept of “Inbox Zero”. I totally recommend reading all the posts in the Inbox Zero series as well as the related articles! If you’re a slave to your inbox (which I found out that I was) then you have much to learn from this amazing resource :)
